Hi folks

It appears every time that I render a Grow FX scene when viewport display is in line mode max will crash. If in mesh mode all seems to render fine.

Quick test in vray seems fine rendering in line viewport mode.

Not a big issue but annoying if you've made a load of adjustments and forget to switch

Cheers

Thanks for the report. We'll look into this! Crashes are a no-no.

Many thanks Maru,

To be honest, after two days of GrowFx work this is getting really annoying!

I have just tested this, and everything seems to be fine. Whether I display the lines in viewport, or hit render, there is no crash. I am using GrowFX 1.9.9 SP3 with a free tree preset found online.
Can you describe what exactly you did to trigger the crash?

Hey guys, I rendered a scene with grow FX yesterday and it went fine using the camera. If you can provide the scene and describe how to reproduce the bug I can give it a try on different nodes configuration. Make sure it's not a RAM issue as I had some of that too.

Thanks Folks,

Just back from Hols, will try and check this on different machines this week.

Just to clarify the crashes happen when I hit render when in grow FX line mode.

Corona 1.5 (hotfix 2) GrowFX 1.9.9 SP3

Cheers

lots of crashes here too, usually if the mesh hasnt already been built at render time. So if 'manual update' is on, then when you hit render max will freeze when corona starts parsing the scene.

this maybe be related to line mode as well. It seems if growfx hasnt already calculated the geometry, then corona will not allow it to do its jobs before corona starts rendering

So far we haven't managed to reproduce the issue. We are in contact with Exlevel about it.
If anyone can do it, an example scene would greatly help!

Ok, so far we have two issues in this thread:

1) Crashes when using the line display mode
We were not able to reproduce this yet. We need more details on this, so a good description and an example scene would be appreciated.

2) Freezing when "manual update" is enabled.
We have reproduced this successfully and will try to fix it together with Exlevel.
Currently the workaround is:
1. Enable devel/debug mode in system settings (https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/12000021288)
2. Go to performance tab
3. Go to development/experimental stuff rollout
4. Disable "multithreaded parsing"
It should work fine now.

we fixed some bugs by disabling multithreaded parsing for growFX. Can you try if everything works well if you either
1) have the latest daily build (2017-04-03 or later), or
2) disable multithreaded parsing in devel/debug settings?

great, thanks. If you (or anyone else) find a problem, bugfix is just one bugreport with scene away ;)
