Title: Random light temperatures / color
Post by: arqpv on 2018-04-20, 22:06:08
Hey everyone

I'd like to know your workflow to randomize light temperatures, and if there is none, add it to requests.
For example I have a building facade and want to have all my instanced lights randomize their intensity and temperature, given a certain range, like between 3800K and 6500K and intensity varying from 15 to 50. Maybe different apartments (a group of lights) could have the same color and intensity or turn them off all the way.
There used to be a script for vray that did this but has not worked for a while.

Thanks!!!

you can use a noise controller

Man why didn’t I think of trying it that way before!, sounds like a quite clever solution, thanks for te response!
Will try it today, although I do hope this gets added in a future release since it would be very useful for archviz.

Hi,

I found a sneaky way to get this working with AudioFloat controllers playing different colours of noise, in wav format.
Changing the 'Seed' value in the CoronaMultiMap changes the Corona Color mapping of each 'Instanced' CoronaLight in the scene.
Advancing the frame value on the timeline in 3DSMax randomises the Output Multiplier of each Hue.

May need some tweaking to suit, but it works here for quickly lighting up rooms in a multi-story building type scenario.
