This PBR mat option - does it mean simply adding roughness, metalness slots to existing Corona material, or it's something more fundamental, like sheen, clearcoat and other goodies, that's often advocated by Juraj Talcik? I have one vote left and don't know where to cast it :]

It is new material. It is not THAT fundamentally different from current Corona Mtl, you can think about it as changing the way controls are preserved and adding multiple tweaks at one time (roughness/glossiness switch, new diffuse BRDF, sheen, ...)

Did you try current v5 RC? There are some optimizations, in our heaviest scene, the parsing time was halved

this is 99% windows issue. The real problem is that you have to run max as administrator for some reasons which should be fixable by autodesk, if it really helps...

Don't worry, we won't remove subsampling. We might introduce back the pixel blending, which could get automatically activated when subsampling is set to 0 (i.e. disabled). It is super-easy change AFAIK.

<rant>What really sucks though is that we are hearing complaints for 1 or 2 years about slow IR, and just now we learn that some users just disabled subsampling (i.e. they changed settings that makes IR fast, which you are not supposed to touch and broke Corona). And apparently everyone forgot to mention this tiny detail, and instead assumed Corona IR now just sucks. If you buy new car with 6 speed transmission, do you also use only speeds 1-5, and then complain online that your new car highway mileage sucks for no apparent reason?</rant>

I mean mostly if the code is not a big mess, but reasonably structured and documented :D. We cannot throw an intern into code equivalent of stalingrad winter, and expect them to survive ;)

We are monitoring blender, but again it is tricky decision, since it is binary from us (do it/not do it), while the popularity/features grow in slow but steady way. Similar to e.g. GPU rendering

Thinking about his, depending on state of codebase and willingness of blanchg, we might have our interns commit opensource improvements to his exporter, for starters

Good news is that we are now working more on standalone and formats compatibility, because we have many different applications we would like to work together (vray, corona, 3dsmax, C4D, material library, cloud, ...). While blender exporter is not part of this directly, it will profit indirectly (improved standalone, more maps supported, faster parsing, ...).

I am expecting the new improved standalone to hit public in about 2 release cycles (1 year)

edit: we have significant improvements right now in nonpublic builds, I mean 2 release cycles for fully stable public version

I suggest usign what Frood recommended. With multiple inputs, it would not be obvious which output to use where - you would still have to somehow specify, that for material X you want to use output #2 and for material Y, output # 5

If this thing happens like they say, then yes, there will be Corona acceleration from day 1. Intel keeps us in the loop, and we are curious where this goes.
