For those speaking czech there is an article which explains why this is most likely to be a fake...

@Radim Razzak - search on the supermicro site for your country maybe you can find a local re-seller in your country that might be cheaper then ebay or amazon and you have actual warrenty from a local place plus a possibility to get ram from them as well. I searched for the boards on ebay and amazon first the only available in Europe was in London and it costed 750 pounds without shipping not to mention the taxes my country would make me pay if I order. Finally found local re-seller on supermicro website and it costed 530 euros...

Thank you for the hint, you were actually right! I found one re-seller with really competitive prices. And as for the Platinum ES chips, do you by any chance know what is the difference between "Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 ES QL2M" and "Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 ES QL1K"? Which one is the newer stepping? Thanks

Yeah, I've had a look round for other cases, and keep coming back to the Evolv X - I'll just have to wait until later this month to get my hands on one. Do Phantexs not realise that my other workstations are struggling and that I need to get building?!

Has anyone got any good suggestions for power supplies? I think I need to get around 1200w, and will probably get something from EVGA as I've used them before and had no problems, but if anyone knows a better option I'm all ears....

I don't know about other brands, but I quite like Corsair PSUs with i-link, which allows you to monitor different values of motherboard, CPUs, RAMs, VGA and PSU itself. I've had many Corsair PSUs and never had a single problem. I still use a 10 years old Corsair HX520 in one of my machine and no problem at all...

Thanks for your advice VUK. The ES 8160s look really good, too bad the motherboards are kind of expensive...

Hi there,

what is the best price vs. performance CPU available on eBay for 2011-3 these days? I have a dual socket Supermicro X10DRL-C motherboard.

Thanks

That's what I meant. If I had to buy a new PSU, I would definitely grab one that have two EPS12V connectors.

I would just add that it's not really necessary to buy a expensive PSU with dual processor support. You can use a normal PSU without two EPS12V connectors,  you just need to buy this cheap reduction on amazon and and plug it on the 6 pin PCI Express power cable.

It worked for me...

Well, after having followed the hints and tricks mentioned above, I managed to get some caustics in my test render. But the bad news is that I get these white artifacts even after 3 hours of rendering on my dual xeon. Any idea on how I could get rid of these or what might be causing them? I just used a simple HDRI setup for fhe lighting.

Thank you.

Hidden with reason :)

In 1.5, you can find it by enabling the Devel/Debug mode - go to System tab, System Settings button, check Enable devel/debug mode, close the menu and head on over to the Performance tab.

Great, thank you very much!

Hello everybody,

This might be a really stupid question, but how can I enable this Experimental section in the Performance tab? It looks like it's hidden from the casual users too well. :)

Thank you
