There's a special codec made by someone, which alows max to playback the video in real time: as a texture, as a viewport background and so on.

I think in a real photo the reflections would not be quite as sharp and fine.

That's a massive improvement. For example between the first render test.png and test2.png which looks almost like the photo reference.

Both the render on the first page and the last render - the blue-green is just a little too saturated. I'm also not sure how to get the white fuzzy parts.

About the disgusting part, I was also a little reluctant, but it helps if you think the mold is related to "medicinal" molds. So don't think mold=bleah, but think mold ... vitamins ... healthy stuff :)
 Gorgonzola dolce or cremosso is the best.

I would actually suggest higher resolution than Full HD.

I see lots of people choosing higher resolutions for screens.
What's the purpose or benefit of a higher resolution ? Especially a resolution like 4k, which I think it's 4 times as much pixels than full hd.
I think it would be a good recommendation for lots of text viewing, web browsing and pictures viewing. I think there would be no penalty for those activities. 

But in 3d work the drawbacks would be having the interactive render much slower, and probably making the nitrous viewport also slower to draw with high poly or lots of objects. So ok, those would be drawbacks, but what would be the benefits ? Is the reduced aliasing in viewport and perceived sharpness that much better that it's worth to suffer a slower workflow ?

It's especially visible when there are two identical models close to each other, so maybe it would be also interesting if the scatter could duplicate models but only if the models are far away from each other. Which would be perhaps more difficult for the scatter to achieve.

It's steep but my carpal tunnel was becoming severe which kinda surprised me as I am barely 30 years old :- ). If I want to keep using PC this is little investment to save my health.

I've found that carpal tunnel seems to be more related to the height of your work surface than the actual grip. Never tried a vertical mouse, but some others, and in the end I came to the conclusion that I held my mouse to high up so now I have a little ledge in front of the screen that holds both the keyboard and the mouse, which made a dramatic difference.

I was about to quote Juraj's reply and say something similar.
In my case I had some problems many years ago and then the problems stopped when I noticed that pain in wrists have more to do with the height of the table or desk. And maybe the height of the monitor also has something to do with a pain free position for long hours of work.
Unfortunately I can't say a magic number like: make sure the table is always at 1.25879465 meters from the ground, but it's worth trying and switching things up in case of pain, and do some trial and error.

i have a hard time to believe those claims "nearly indistinguishable from originally high-rez".

Usually the results could have big differences in quality depending on the source image. Some said it can depend on what kind of  images the resize algorithm was trained with.

that upscaler works best at already pretty high resolution input. Would IR benefit much from upscaler if it does not give optimal results at lower resolution?

Also usually works best not from high resolution images, low resolution could work just as well, but for good results that low resolution image should be at a "final" quality and noise free, which would maybe conflict with the idea of drafting or lookdev usage.

why you want  this in 3ds max as it's post processing after all

This would suppose to be magical "AI" upscaling, and it will result in a much faster rendering while looking almost the same, so it will help you in lookdev and also in time consuming animation rendering.

Kind of like Nvidia denoising, which already does something similar, instantly showing you the results. You could have the same argument there too: Why not denoise in post-processing ? instead of instant, during rendering.

As I understand one of the advantages of Qt is being cross-platform, which doesn't apply to 3ds max.
Doesn't anyone know what other practical advantages for the user is the migration to Qt ?  Besides being "modern" (that doesn't say anything for the end user).

Because so far I see only drawbacks. For example when expanding the command panel, it used to be a simple click and drag process - with the previous fixed width per column.
Now, if you don't wanna have wasted space, you have to be careful and drag and wait and drag to a certain distance in order to have two or three rows/columns.

Wow, the path tracer included seems greet. Can you export videos with it ?  Because they said it's just for reference and compare.

Cry Engine ray tracing look great. But can't beat the Datasmith workflow imho.

My only gripe with Cryengine is it isn't very easy to learn.

What do you mean ? I've heard this before, but the Cryengine editor, at least the old one, was modeled after 3ds max. So in theory and at least for 3ds max users, it should be easier than Unreal.
Unless you meant some other aspects from the engine, or the programing part.
