Thanks for looking into it. I did a quick check yesterday and it was still a quality difference between Corona and Native.

Hello!
Yes it still happens but the reason seams to be a script activated at the same time as IR, so its not the 3Ds max and corona that's not working.

3dsMax 'perspective' view also has some kind of focal length, only by default it's usually 45 degrees of FOV (Field of View), which corresponds to 43mm +/- FullFrame sensor (35mm).

In Sketchup, the Architect can use type either FOV or FOCAL LENGTH, (either type "45 DEG", or "43 MM").

If both you and the architect type 28 MM wide-angle focal length, it will look the same. Rectilinear projection looks the same everywhere, that's basic geometry, but I understand you well, I fought with architects and clients who have extremely poor understanding of perspective for years... it boggles my mind ! Sometimes almost to what-the-fuck point :- O. That's life. Just keep educating and explaing :- ).

One more thing is 2-point perspective from Sketchup, which in 3dsMax you activate by "Autovertical tilt correction".

Also, perspective is the same, but it appears more distorted the taller is your composition. 28 mm in 16:9 ration looks less wide than it looks in 4:3. Some people can be confused by that as well.

No problem! Don't forget that you always have an option to increase focal length, move camera outside of the room and use camera clipping panes to see through walls. That would solve unwanted perspective distortion problem.

Thanks for the explanatory answer. I need to check out SketchUp a little bit more.
There was no difference after all, just the architect who was "seeing" something differently when the textures where applied, compared to the clay view in SketchUp. :P

The most interesting discussion I ever had in this field, was a discussion of a colored wall with a IES light directed at it. Apparently the color did not match the specified RAL color in the spot where the light hit the wall...it was to bright :)

Yes perspective distortion from a wide lens.
The architect is comparing with a view from Sketchup. I have not worked with Sketchup but it seems to show a view similar to a "Perspective" in max viewport.

Yes scene loads correctly, start IR and then right click and stop. The blue 3dsmax loading symbol appears, then it just stays like that in several minutes without anything happens. I need to force 3dsmax to close, so no dumpfile.

Hello!

I have  trouble with diffrent Scenes in Corona 4 and max 2020.
Getting a loading symbol and thescene locks itself when I push the IR stop button.

Anyone having same problem?

Happend like 5 times now.

Hello!

I cant get Corona Bitmap to increase in pixel quality in viewport, when changing the px value in native "Configure ViewPorts (texture map)".

It works fine with 3ds max bitmap.

I sometimes use this for drawings and quick sketches.

I try to keep it as linear as possible from the frame-buffer, but sometimes I tweak highlight compression a little bit, as even PS can have trouble with overburnt highlights .. Then it's just camera raw and simple adjustments layers + some custom luts for finals...  back in a day I used to overdo my postpro a lot, so I want to learn from it and try to keep it very simple and subtle

Awesome, I figured you had some custom tone mapping/post processing going on. The images reminded me of Jakub Cech's work quite a lot (who uses a similar post processing setup as yourself if I'm not mistaken). I've tried going down this road in the past but it becomes a bit cumbersome when needing to rapidly iterate/tweak materials due to the VFB/final output differences.

I feel like tone mapping is one area that is hugely overlooked, so far for me Dubcat's ACES/Cannon 5D settings have gotten me the best 'out of the box' results from Corona, but still not a patch on FStorm's godly tonemapping.


What are the settings of Dubcat? Can you lead me to the discussion?

It seemsto work well on sweep with large corner radius, but with sharp corner it fuck up the uvws totally!
