You can force calculating displacement also for areas outside of camera view by:
- Switching to world-size displacement
- Using a special string option: https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000518663-string-options
Both things will significantly increase displacement calculation time and RAM usage.

I couldn't ask for better information. Thank you as well.

Love to see a wood shader one day!

It doesn't make much sense. A renderer renders. Maybe you meant a wood procedural noise? There is some that can be implemented, but otherwise you will have to use texture softwares or libraries for that.

Makes sense indeed. Thank you both very much for your helpful replies.

Did you move the view after starting IR? Displacement in Corona is adaptive, it triangulates only directly visible parts of the mesh. If you move the view or mesh itself while IR is running, displacement won't be updated, you need to restart IR or change displacement settings in order to update.

I did move the view yes. I suppose if I hit the non IPR (final render) it will look correct.

Thank you.

Bug Reporting / Displacement artifact
« on: 2019-07-11, 16:54:00 »
Hi, sort of "long time no see". I just downloaded Corona 4.0 hot fix for 3ds Max '19 and I'm facing this particular issue - See the attached screenshots and GIF

What's weird is restarting the IPR make the problem go away but come back when I restart the IPR again or move the camera.. it gets refreshed on changes such as filtering that I mentioned bellow, which I first thought was the cause of the issue.

• Problem: artifact you see (dark triangles)+ flatten displacement in some (random?) areas in the plane

• What I tried:
- plane is simple default Max plane, nothing fancy added
- different filtering (0.01 OFF or 1 ON) and filtering mode
- material disp and also CoronaDisp modifier
- different Corona Settings from Displacement Screen Size
- Tried the map in another renderer, no issue. The maps are all fine.

Am I perhaps missing a detail?

I need help Cinema 4D / Re: Substance Painter to Corona C4D
« on: 2018-12-16, 00:41:57 »
There was a topic in the forum with similar discussion and explanations why some maps needs to be loaded linearly and others with gamma 2.2, but it could be hard to find it. For now just remember, that colour/diffuse texture in most cases must be loaded with embedded gamma. Glossiness, IOR, displacement, bump, anisotropy should always be loaded in linear.

iirc it was on the messy dubcat thread.

Coming from using Vray for years we're starting to bend towards Corona more and more.

What I love about Vray - and HATE in Corona is the way the Corona VFB handles renders.

If you store an image in the Corona VFB history you can only save out the base image.

Render elements aren't saved into the history so you can't save out any render elements.

In Vray - If you double click a render in the history, it opens up in the VFB (and loads elements in too).  You can then 'Save All'

In Corona I don't think you can do it.

Is there a fix/workaround for that?

I don't want to be mean but you cannot say you hate it if you haven't learn it yet. Yes you can, actually Corona VFB is very flexible and easy.

How to : Corona VFB Window > Save Icon > Put the mouse OVER and HOLD > Save as CXR = Corona own format for saving all the elements you added.

Now you can close Max or C4D, and open the CXR file using Corona Image Editor, you have all your render elements + post FX + light mix.

Let me know if you need more help.

Custom materials in the library should definitely be on the poll

Elaborate please? You can already make Material Librairies with Max. You mean you want to use the corona library window UI to manage your own libraries ?

Following this thread. I was an ex C4D Corona user and switched to Max. If there is a script that can avoid me some manual tasks I would love to even pay for it.

Here is a pretty good example of the ACES

I even requested OCIO in Corona just after I tested it in Arnold. https://corona-renderer.com/forum/index.php?topic=18169

I wonder why Auto-Focus is not already a feature/available option. +1 for adding it officially.

I need help / Re: Using multiple HDRI's for lighting.
« on: 2018-11-14, 12:07:18 »

Thanks, I'll try to do that for the future. Unfortunately, good HDRI's are expensive for a student like me. I'd love to get some feedback from you on the lighting in the picture I have attached to this if you don't mind.

We met in the server in which we feedbacked on your render, I just reply here lately...

Glad you joined the discord. You will find free HDRI/Backplate or very affordable ones.

Last thursday our school had a visit from a guy from Sunday digital, who is making BMW commercials. I showed him my work, and got some feedback. In my scene i had simply rendered a car using HDRI lighting with a matching backplate. He said that, what they typically do is add additional fake lighting to the scene

Yep, exactly what I said, so far so good.

or rotating the HDRI and making multiple renders and then combine them in photoshop. (...) they get to the location early in the morning and start shooting photos there, and then take shots throughout the day so that they have different lighting

They must be taking different shots yes but never saw someone mixing morning sun light with after noon and sunset night light. It will look like crap to be honest. It's not even natural, not at all and I never saw that yet on any commercials.

If you want to improve your lighting and make it look professional : Get some Professional/High quality HDRI+Matched Backplates, add additional lights (area lights enough for you to start with, and it's what most pros uses).

If you are looking at automotive resources I made a place for that. You have a category on the left called RESOURCES : https://discord.gg/DEUuNs7

Hmm, if those are (nice but still) "noisy test renders", then maybe they should stay in the WIP section?

Click on the Behance link, I explained why they are noisy.
