When setting up the path of the output files in .cexr format, Max is giving me a pop up, saying Error Creating File Output (not popping up in .exr).

Any tips or advices guys ?

Thx !

Usually in 3ds Max this means that some path is configured incorrectly (for example to non-existent location). Please make sure that all paths are correct (file output, render elements, and other paths in asset tracker (Shift+T)).

Hi Maru.

Indeed, some paths were set up wrong.

Don't know if this come from Max or Corona, but when I set up my output path, in the common tab (render output), the path set up for each render element gets wrong.

1- By just deleting these output paths, I can render in .cexr.

2- While I'm writting this, I've just seen that when the render stops, Max tells me it can't write the output file...

Please note that I have this issue just with .cexr, and this is working perfectly with all the other formats. Also, the path exists and is properly set up.

What would you suggest ?

I'm using Max 2016 + Corona 1.5 (hotfix 1)

Thx !

EDIT:

for example when I choose .cexr, my output path is this one

renderoutput\Shot_001\Shot_001_Light_Top.cex   instead of .cexr ?

but in .exr it gets like this

renderoutput\Shot_001\Shot_001_Light_Top.exr

This sounds like a bug. I will try to reproduce it. Can you also check if you are sure that the same thing is not happening with other renderer?

I can confirm there is a problem here. Moving this to bugs.

So here is how to reproduce this:
-set output in common path to test.cexr
-add some render elements
-instead of test_xxx.cexr the output path for render elements will show test_xxx.cex , which is an unknown format and leads to "error creating file output"

Hi there,

Just read this post as I am experiencing the same sort of issue.

When I do the batch render it seems to be creating the .cexr file and save it properly. What I am having trouble with though is when I am trying to load this to the frame buffer to resume rendering it seems that it cannot read the file.

When I click resume from file it only gives me the option to open.exr file.
Does this mean that with the batch render I cannot resume the rendering of the file later on or load it to change the interactive light mix for example?

Many thanks!

Hi. I think all these problems wouldn't have existed if the Corona-exr extension was "cxr" instead of "cexr".

I forwarded all my notes about this to the development team, and I am also sure they are monitoring this thread, so the issue will be addressed soon.

Great!! Thanks for the update and looking forward to getting those issues fixed.

Found a temporary solution to the issue!

When you save from the batch render as .cexr just let it finish the render and when you want to load it up again on the VFB you just change the file type manually to .exr.

Loads just fine and you can continue with your work!

there is a bug in 3ds Max that clamps all extensions in this case to 3 characters (sigh). I worked around it by changing the extension to .cxr
