First noticed in 1.7 RC9 also present in RC10

Portals are not working with corona lights and sun

they do work with hdri though (tested only coronabitmap)

This is pretty bad, cause corona sun can be big source of noise...

yes, this is expected. Portals are fairly simple device that cannot work with these lights. We will instead improve light adaptivity to handle these cases. Chaogroup already has a working prototype

Portals work mainly for direct light entering the room diffusely. What you see in your sun render is:
-direct light only in the small sun spot
-the noise caused by GI bouncing around
So the noise does not have anything to do with the light entering through the window, only that bouncing around the room.

Thanks for clarification.

For some reason(maybe just being stupid), I always thought that in previous versions it actually helped to have portals for sunlight (bounce light)...

Anyways, I hope the prototype light adaptivity will turn out well :)

portals were never used for sun - they are used for sky though
