Hello

In a scene, the interactive Rendering is always restarting if the mouse cursor was moved over a viewport or the frame buffer. sounds like a bug, but might be something different (like a strange script controller maybe...)

did somebody else encounter this behaviour?

I get it pretty often ;- ).

I haven't been yet able to find out what feature exactly contributes towards it. I was given suggestion that it is another culprit stemming from physical camera but I do have some doubts.
Mainly because it reacts to framebuffer itself which is not 3dsMax native thing.

Usually it comes with second bug on top (but not always together) when even when not moving cursor, it will restart after certain (different) amount of passes or time or whatever it is. In loop.

ok, so we are not the only ones (with a good amount of custom tools in our pipe, this would have been possible though). What kind of things are exactly triggering the callback for the interactive render refresh? maybe we can break it down this way?

I have zero custom tools so you can safely discount that :- ).

I have a scene, where only one camera does it I believe. There are two cameras and I think they are pretty identical...I will try to find time to open it and see if I can figure something.

3dsmax physical camera is still causing this and we cannot fix this, only solution is to either not use 3dsmax physical camera (use corona cam instead), or wait for bugfix in 3dsmax...
Rendering is magic.

Only one solution then

Happens to me too in Max 2019. Yet, I only ever use the CoronaCam.

@Ben, if you are able to reproduce it, please let us know. This would be a quite serious issue, and it would be great to fix it.

Absolutely, I tried with with the problematic scene today but it was playing nice. I'll keep at it though.

Well I managed to capture it happening even without touching or moving the mouse. Just after pass 15 the IR restarts. Skip to 3:40secs

Could it be your autosave? I know mine starts if it autosaves - the default max autosave is 5 min, but if your system autosaves and 2 mins after you get your Interactive Render going, you're only going to get 3 min before it autosaves again, issuing another restart.
I have my autosave for 15 min precisely because of this, to avoid the restart 5 minutes after.

@Ben @Juraj

I've been investigating the issue thoroughly and it really seems to be caused by 3ds Max file backup. When I had it disabled, I didn't encounter any resets even when I flew my mouse all over the place selecting and deselecting objects, turning sub-windows on and off.

While 3ds Max file backup was turned on, I was able to reproduce the same thing in Bens video. The thing here is that it's not always backing up files. It backed up whenever I selected and deselected an object (nothing else done to it, just select and deselect). But if I just move around with my mouse and change window focus, IR runs uninterupted.

Another thing would be Camera settings, I used CoronaCam, PhysCam, Target Cam and Free Cam. All with default settings. If you had other setting on your cameras, would you mind telling me? Or even better, if you still encounter this issue with disabled file back up. Would you mind sharing the scene itself?

Thank you very much

Maybe some special scene objects cause this additionally? I'm able to reproduce it at least with a GrowIvy (v 0.97b) object. Even just selecting the move or rotate button from the main toolbar or activating snaps causes a restart. Also having snaps on and moving the mouse over the (currently rendererd) viewport. This happens in every type of viewport, no cam needed. Applying a edit mesh on top resolves this.

Good Luck
