Try it with gray material override (clay render) - what CPU load do you have then?
Rendering is magic. How to get minidumps for crashed/frozen 3ds Max | Sorry for short replies, brief responses = more time to develop Corona ;)

Your CPU is either throttling or underclocking due to energy settings. It's 2600k with 3,4Ghz, but you're rendering with 1,6 GHz for some strange reason.

Doesn't look to be associated with Corona to me anyhow, but by your computer settings. What's you energy settings (Look at control center), anything special in Uefi(bios) ?

What is your motherboard... ? Even the first early models of SandyBridge support Win8 just fine, but always update to latest possible UEFI possible.

I bought the very first version of Asus P8P67 when SandyBridge came together with i7 2600k 3 years ago, and also had lot of issues with first UEFI versions. Because I bought revision1 they actually stopped providing updates for it just year later,
perfect example of customer care lol. I updated it to IvyBridge board and retired as file server.
